Flux Laboratory: main partner of the Operalab.ch project
Operalab.ch: 7 institutions and 15 young artists unite to give birth to the opera of tomorrow.
Flux Laboratory is pleased to join the project as main partner to the various institutions (Grand Théâtre de Genève (GTG), Comédie de Genève, Geneva School of Art and Design (HEAD), Haute Ecole de Musique of Geneva (HEM), The Manufacture - School of Performing Arts as well as the Swiss literary institute of the Bern University of the Arts) for an unprecedented project aiming to create a musical theater production from start to finish.
15 alumni from the Hautes Écoles d'Art will be offered an eight-month residency to design, stage and present to the public a multidisciplinary and original piece of work centered around contemporary subject matters. The output of this first edition of OperaLab.ch will be a scenic creation presented in September 2020 in an emblematic space made available by the HEAD: the CUBE.
These 15 artists and creators will have the opportunity to explore their creative potential within Flux Laboratory, a place ideal for artistic stimulation and experimentation.
The residents will also be supported by 4 "permanent" mentors, this form of mentorship being intended to allow artists and creators to fully develop their potential. The permanent tutors for 2019-2020 are: Beat Furrer (composer), David Hermann (director), Arielle Meyer (playwright of la Comédie), Stephan Müller (GTG artistic adviser). Additional mentors will periodically be selected by the institutions based on their season programmes. These mentors will bring an external perspective to the project as well as give occasional workshops or masterclasses in music composition, orchestra music, singing, theater, scenography, stage design, choreography, dance and all other closely related artistic activities.
